The Elder Panthers will try for their first state title since 2003 tonight against Cleveland St. Ignatius at 7:00 PM at Fawcett Stadium.
St. Ignatius is trying for their tenth state title while the Panthers aim for their third.
Both teams come in ranked in the USA Today top 20; St.Ignatius at No. 16 and Elder at No. 18.
Both teams will be relying on their star quarterbacks to lead their explosive offenses. Elder quarterback Mark Miller has thrown for 2,928 yards and 29 touchdowns, while St. Ignatius quarterback Drew Holland has thrown for 2,512 and 25 touchdowns.
Elder completes their well rounded attack with running back Adam Brown who has rushed for 1,125 yards and 13 touchdowns. Brown did sprain an ankle last week but is still expected to play tonight.
St. Ignatius’ rushing attack isn’t as strong as the Panthers, and doesn’t have a 1,000 yard rusher on their team. Their top running back is Mike Anter who has 887 yards and ten touchdowns on the season.
Both teams come in with a 13-1 record.
