World Master Chef
Program Coordinator, University of Cincinnati's Bachelors of Science Culinary Arts and Science
Culinary Instructor, Midwest Culinary Institute
Meg Galvin was recently awarded the title of World Master Chef. Only 13 women in the world hold the title of World Master Chef. Cincinnati's Meg Galvin has earned her spot!
Through a life long commitment to the culinary industry and years of dedicated work, Meg Galvin was awarded the title of Master Chef in 2005 by the World Master Chef Society. She received a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Eastern Kentucky University, and a Certificate of Culinary Arts from The Cordon Bleu in London, England. Meg is also certified as an Executive Chef by the American Culinary Federation and is a member of the Research Chef's Association.
Meg Galvin serves as the Program Coordinator for the Bachelor of Science Culinary Arts and Science program at the University of Cincinnati. In addition, she is a culinary faculty member at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, home of the Midwest Culinary Institute, an American Culinary Federation certified college. The culinary program, one of only three in the country, has provided UC and Cincinnati State with national exposure. This dual program fits naturally with Meg's philosophy that "cooking is an art, but understanding the science behind the art will make one a better cook." She is also an author and co-editor of several books and research abstracts.
Chef Galvin's culinary interests lie within in the areas of methodology, children's cooking, pastry, and healthy styles of meal preparation. She enjoys teaching culinary students at the collegiate level, community students who need help with basic skills or new recipes, and most of all, children. She finds innovative ways to create imaginative and fun foods while incorporating the needed vegetables and fruits that young and active children require for growth. Meg has been an outspoken leader in the community, promoting good food choices. As she likes to say, "Dine from the earth to the table by shopping at local markets and selecting fruits and vegetables of the season."
Originally from a farm in central Kentucky, Chef Galvin's family includes three sons, 7 year old twins and an 8 year old. She & her husband live in Northern Kentucky.
Over the past 7 years, Chef Galvin has received numerous awards from the American Culinary Federation, Cincinnati chapter. She accepted the ACF John Sector Culinary Educator award in 2000, ACF Presidential Medallion in 2001, was named the ACF Chef of the Year in 2002, and received the Tastemaker's award from the Cincinnati Enquirer in 2004.
